Gachagua Advises Samidoh to Ditch Police Job for Lucrative Music Career

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has openly advised popular Mugithi artist and police officer Samuel Muchoki, widely known as Samidoh, to resign from the police service and fully focus on his flourishing music career.

Speaking on Kameme FM, Gachagua voiced concern over Samidoh’s ongoing disciplinary issues with the National Police Service (NPS), arguing that the risks of a police job are not worth it for someone earning far more through entertainment.

“I told Samidoh, ‘Your police job pays KSh 40,000, but you make KSh 400,000 every weekend from your music—that’s about KSh 1.6 million monthly. Why risk your life for KSh 40,000 when your talent is clearly more rewarding?’” Gachagua said.

He urged Samidoh to consider the numbers and make a smart decision, calling him an intelligent man. Gachagua also joked about Samidoh’s small frame, saying he may be small but is “a very wealthy man” who should prioritize his safety and peace of mind.

Encouraging Samidoh to remain in the United States—where he’s currently touring—Gachagua added that he plans to meet him during an upcoming visit to the Ngemi Festival in July.

These comments follow reports that Samidoh is under disciplinary review after allegedly failing to report back to duty on May 27th. A police memo claims he has been unreachable since, resulting in the suspension of his salary and being labelled as having deserted his post.

The issue gained more attention after a video went viral showing Samidoh joining fans in chanting “wantam,” a slogan critical of President William Ruto’s administration—an action seen as breaching police codes requiring political neutrality.

In response, Samidoh has been reassigned to Gilgil in Nakuru County, with further action pending.

Despite the allegations, Samidoh has remained light-hearted. During a TikTok live session with his wife Edday Nderitu in the U.S., he made humorous remarks about the situation.

“Can’t a man argue he has young kids and is still building his family?” he joked, while also poking fun at the memo: “Who’s calling me a desert? Isn’t dessert the sweet thing you eat after a meal?”

Calling the situation a “passing cloud,” he laughed off the idea of being arrested, noting that he had heard nothing would happen until July—after his U.S. tour concludes.
