Police Bosses: MP Koimburi Faked Abduction Using Proxies, Spent Night in Hotel.

Police Say Juja MP George Koimburi Faked Abduction for Political Gain

The National Police Service (NPS) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have alleged that Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi staged his own abduction in a bid to gain political mileage.

According to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and DCI Director Amin Mohamed, fresh details emerged after interrogating three additional suspects linked to the incident. The police noted major inconsistencies in the MP’s account, which undermined claims of a forceful abduction.

Speaking during a press briefing at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road, DCI boss Amin Mohamed said surveillance and tracking efforts revealed discrepancies between Koimburi’s reported disappearance and his actual movements.

“Fortunately, we expedited investigations and can now confirm to the public that the MP was not abducted,” said Mohamed. “We accounted for his movements from when he attended church to the location where he spent the night. We even identified the specific hotel and room number.”

Mohamed added that police were denied access to interrogate the MP while he was admitted to hospital, raising further suspicions about the authenticity of the abduction.

The police further revealed that Koimburi allegedly worked with close associates to stage the abduction. Through the interrogation of suspects — Juja Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Chairman Peter Kiratu, businessman Cyrus Kieru Muhia, and Karanja Gatana — investigators identified a Subaru Forester used in the staged incident.

According to Muhia, who operates a supermarket in Kahawa West, Kiratu contacted him on May 24, requesting the use of his Subaru Forester to transport additional security for the MP during a church event in Mugutha.

On May 25, Muhia was instructed to meet Kiratu at his home in Mugutha, where he also encountered Gatana, who arrived in Kiratu’s Honda CRV with three unidentified men. The group visited the church to survey the area before returning.

Later, Kiratu asked Muhia to drive his Subaru Forester, this time with two men on board, toward the church. Upon arrival, the two men quickly alighted, and moments later, the MP was allegedly forced into the vehicle amid screams, according to police.

They then drove through Kambogo Road toward Jacaranda Coffee Research Institute, where they stopped near Kiratu’s Honda CRV. There, the MP exited and was left in the company of two men who reportedly warned Muhia against speaking to authorities.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, and they intend to take appropriate legal action against MP Koimburi once it is complete.
