TIFA Poll: Majority of Kenyans Believe Raila Will Return to Opposition and Run for President in 2027.

A new survey released by TIFA has revealed shifting public opinions surrounding the political future of opposition leader Raila Odinga ahead of the 2027 general elections.

With Raila’s 2027 ambitions still unclear—especially after joining forces with President William Ruto to support the broad-based government—many Kenyans believe he will still appear on the presidential ballot. According to the TIFA poll published on Wednesday, 28% of respondents believe Raila will return to the opposition and run for president. Meanwhile, 23% think he will throw his weight behind President Ruto’s re-election bid, and 18% expect him to support another opposition candidate. Fourteen percent foresee him retiring from active politics, while 16% remain uncertain about his next political move.

Raila’s ultimate decision is widely viewed as a key factor that could reshape Kenya’s political landscape in the lead-up to 2027.

The survey also highlights mixed public sentiment toward the broad-based government. A majority—54%—oppose the arrangement, 22% support it, and 25% remain undecided.
