Kenya Raises Alarm Over Growing Refugee Influx in the Horn of Africa.

Kenya on Tuesday raised concerns over the growing number of refugees arriving from the Horn of Africa, driven by ongoing regional conflicts.

Speaking during a quarterly diplomatic briefing attended by members of the diplomatic corps in Kenya, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi emphasized the need for joint efforts to address the root causes of displacement and extend support to affected populations.

Addressing the situation in Sudan, Mudavadi reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to promoting dialogue and backing peace initiatives without bias. “Kenya’s approach to the Sudanese peace talks is rooted in neutrality. Our focus is on supporting a peaceful resolution to the conflict, and we remain engaged with all stakeholders to help achieve a lasting solution,” he stated.

Mudavadi further urged both regional and international partners to collaborate with the joint East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) initiative aimed at resolving the crisis in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

According to the UN refugee agency UNHCR, Kenya currently hosts over 800,000 refugees.
