Kenya Sevens standout Patrick Odongo continues to make waves on the global rugby scene after receiving a call-up to participate in the first-ever Rugby Premier League (RPL), scheduled to take place in Mumbai, India, from June 1 to June 15, 2025.
The much-anticipated tournament will be hosted at the Brihanmumbai Kreeda Ani Lalitkala and will feature six franchise teams, attracting elite players from top Rugby 7s nations such as New Zealand, Fiji, South Africa, Argentina, USA, Great Britain, Kenya, and others.
Odongo, who has been a consistent performer for Kenya in the HSBC World Sevens Series, the Challenger Series, and with Daystar University, will join the Delhi Redz under the guidance of rugby legend Tomasi Cama, a former New Zealand great.
Kenya Rugby Union CEO Thomas Odundo praised the selection, emphasizing that Odongo’s inclusion is well-deserved.
“It’s a proud moment to see one of our own selected for such a prestigious event. Patrick has shown remarkable consistency over the past two seasons at every level — internationally and for his club,” Odundo said.
Odongo is one of 30 marquee international players selected for the tournament, highlighting his growing prominence in the global Sevens rugby arena. His participation marks a significant achievement for Kenyan rugby, showcasing the nation’s rising talent on an international platform.
The RPL is expected to be a trailblazing event for rugby in Asia, and Odongo will be representing Kenya with pride as he ventures into this new chapter.
Most recently, Odongo played a key role in helping Shujaa, under coach Kevin Wambua, secure a second-place finish behind Fiji at the Singapore Sevens.
