Governor Nassir reassures that Nyali Bridge and surrounding homes are safe despite Mombasa building demolition.

Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sheriff Nassir has reassured the public regarding the safety of infrastructure near an 11-storey building set to be demolished. While urging people to vacate the areas surrounding the building, the governor emphasized that the Nyali Bridge, which will be closed during the operation, will remain unaffected. “The bridge structure is solid and based on our calculations, it will not be impacted. This demolition is carefully planned,” he stated.

He further assured that homes and businesses near the building will not be harmed, as the military-led operation will be conducted with precision.

“We have taken all necessary precautions and are simply requesting that those nearby vacate. Remaining in the vicinity could pose risks to your health, especially due to the potential noise,” the governor warned.

Nassir explained that due to the sensitive nature of the operation, thorough risk assessments were conducted before proceeding with the demolition.

On Tuesday, Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya issued a gazette notice for the deployment of the Kenya Defence Forces to lead the operation, which is expected to last nearly eight hours.

The building, which began sinking on April 2, 2025, will undergo careful demolition to ensure safety.
