Kenyan Teams Secure Spots in Quarterfinals at Women’s African Clubs Championship in Abuja

Kenya’s top volleyball clubs — Kenya Prisons, Kenya Pipeline, and KCB — have all qualified for the quarterfinal stage of the Women’s African Clubs Championship currently taking place in Abuja, Nigeria.

Five-time champions Kenya Prisons, chasing their first continental title since 2013, battled hard to overcome Rwanda Police Volleyball Club with a narrow 3-2 victory (25-23, 19-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-10) in the Round of 16 at the Moshood Abiola Stadium Indoor Arena. Despite a strong showing from Rwanda, led by former Prisons attacker Meldina Sande, the Kenyan side held their nerve in the decisive fifth set to claim the win.

Meanwhile, 2022 champions KCB eased past Nigeria Customs Service in straight sets, while Kenya Pipeline delivered a dominant performance against Spiking Stars of Botswana, also winning in straight sets.

The quarterfinals, scheduled for Wednesday, feature high-stakes matches: Kenya Prisons will take on record titleholders Al Ahly of Egypt at 2 PM. Kenya Pipeline will face Rwanda’s APR at 6 PM, a team they recently lost to 3-1 in the CAVB Zone Five Club Championship final in Uganda. KCB, on the other hand, will challenge defending champions Zamalek of Egypt at 8 PM, aiming to avenge their 3-1 semifinal loss to the Egyptians from last year.

If both KCB and Kenya Pipeline win their matches, it could set the stage for an all-Kenyan showdown in the semifinals.
