UK High Commission Condemns Police Brutality Against Protesters, Calls for Transparent Investigation.

The United Kingdom’s High Commission in Kenya has strongly condemned the excessive use of force by police against protesters during Tuesday’s demonstrations in Nairobi.

In a statement released on Wednesday morning, the Commission expressed deep concern over the violent crackdown on demonstrators demanding the resignation of Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat, following the controversial death of Albert Ojwang’—a teacher and blogger based in Voi.

“We extend our best wishes for the speedy recovery of those injured in yesterday’s violence,” said a spokesperson for the Commission, referring to the clashes that erupted in Nairobi’s Central Business District. The High Commission emphasized that police must uphold public trust and act with accountability in the execution of their duties.

The Commission also called for a prompt, independent, and transparent investigation into the conduct of officers during the protests.

This diplomatic rebuke follows the circulation of a harrowing video showing a face mask vendor being brutally assaulted and shot at close range by a police officer along Moi Avenue. Shocked bystanders later rushed to carry the bleeding man away in a desperate attempt to save his life.

The incident has ignited national outrage, prompting condemnation from civil society, legal groups, and concerned citizens demanding justice.

Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo labeled the incident “unacceptable” and urged immediate action to address the growing trend of police brutality in the country.
