Interior CS Murkomen Declares June 6 a Public Holiday for Eid-ul-Adha
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has officially declared Friday, June 6, 2025, a public holiday in celebration of Eid-ul-Adha.
The announcement was made through a gazette notice issued on Wednesday. “It is notified for the general information of the public that in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 (1) of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares that Friday, 6th June, 2025, shall be a public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Adha,” the notice stated.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant events on the Islamic calendar. The festival highlights the values of faith, unity, and generosity, and it marks the conclusion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca — one of the Five Pillars of Islam.
During the celebration, Muslims around the world exchange greetings and gifts, share festive meals, and distribute meat to family members, friends, and those in need.
