CS Kagwe Launches Drone Initiative to Provide Real-Time Soil Data to Kenyan Farmers.

Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary, Sen. Mutahi Kagwe, has introduced a groundbreaking initiative in partnership with Kenya Airways to deploy drones for gathering vital soil data. This information will be transmitted to farmers via mobile phones, providing them with real-time agronomic guidance. Additionally, CS Kagwe has underscored the need for reforms in the curriculum of Kenya’s 10 agricultural training institutions to incorporate emerging technologies and ensure extension officers are equipped with modern skills.

Kagwe made these remarks during a meeting with a high-level delegation from the Rockefeller Foundation, led by Executive Vice President Liz Yee. The discussions centered on potential strategic collaborations aimed at enhancing food security, driving economic growth, and improving rural livelihoods. Key topics included expanding market access for farmers, promoting climate-smart agricultural practices, and ensuring greater availability of nutritious food across the country.

The meeting also addressed initiatives to support Vision 2030’s goal of providing 10 million school meals, with a particular focus on revitalizing 4K Clubs in primary and secondary schools to cultivate healthy, nutritious food.
